In a closely contested Week 10 fixture of the Munster Cricket Union (MCU) Junior Cup, Clare CC 2nd XI secured a narrow one-wicket victory over Limerick CC 2nd XI at Adare Manor.

First Innings: Limerick CC 2nd XI Set 170 Target

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Limerick CC 2nd XI posted a total of 169 for 8 from their allotted 45 overs. The innings got off to a slow start with the early loss of opener Yash Srivastava (1) to Z Udin. However, a disciplined second-wicket partnership of 50 runs between Nishant Kumar (42 off 65 balls) and Bharat Dahima (15 off 59 balls) steadied the innings.

Following a brief rain delay in the 23rd over, Ayan Ullah anchored the remainder of the innings. Ullah top-scored for Limerick with a well-compiled 58 from 78 deliveries, including three boundaries. He found able support in Dharmesh Patel (19), putting together a quick-fire 50-run stand for the fifth wicket. Late wickets restricted Limerick’s push in the final powerplay, finishing on 169.

For Clare, Hrushikesh Pardeshi was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2 for 31 from his 9 overs, while Z Udin claimed 2 for 34. Gurpreet Singh kept things tight, conceding just 25 runs from his 9 overs.

Second Innings: Clare CC 2nd XI Chase it Down in Final Overs

Chasing 170, Clare CC 2nd XI endured a difficult start, losing openers Faizan Hakim (2) and S Taj (6) early to leave them at 12 for 2. Wicketkeeper-batsman M Sidiqi led the counter-attack, striking a brisk 43 off 37 balls, including six boundaries and a six, before falling to Dharmesh Patel.

A Udin played a patient, stabilizing role, scoring 23 from 72 balls to keep Clare in the hunt. Useful contributions from Raj More (16), S Pannerselvam (13), and Z Udin (12) took Clare closer to the target. However, accurate bowling from Limerick kept the game in the balance. Syed Asif Hussain (2/24) and Dharmesh Patel (2/21) took key wickets, while Abdul Baqi Khan bowled a highly economical spell of 1 for 22 off 9 overs.

Limerick’s defense was significantly hampered by discipline, conceding a high number of extras, including 37 wides and 5 no-balls.

When S Pannerselvam was dismissed in the 41st over, Clare were left reeling at 164 for 9, still requiring 6 runs with only one wicket remaining. The final pair of Mushtaq Safi (1*) and captain Gurpreet Singh (2*) held their nerve to guide Clare across the line in the 43rd over, sealing a dramatic one-wicket win.

Hero of the Match

Ayan Ullah (Limerick CC 2nd XI)

Despite being on the losing side, Ayan Ullah delivered the standout individual performance of the match. He top-scored across both teams with a resilient 58 to form the backbone of Limerick’s innings, and later returned with the ball to deliver a crucial breakthrough by dismissing Z Udin during the tense closing stages of the chase.

First Innings: Clonmel Post Formidable Total

Opener Muhammad Arbaz Amjad Kushar laid a solid foundation for the hosts, striking 81 runs off 80 deliveries, an innings that included seven boundaries and four sixes. He initiated proceedings with a 70-run opening stand alongside captain Sharan Narke (12).

Following Kushar’s dismissal to F Francis in the 22nd over, Subeesh Velappan anchored the second half of the innings. Velappan remained unbeaten on 66 from 70 balls, reaching his half-century in 61 deliveries. He anchored several key partnerships, including a rapid 50-run 7th-wicket stand with Babar Ali (21). Ahmad Qamar also chipped in with a brisk 24. Clonmel’s total was further bolstered by 46 extras, which included a 12-run penalty awarded in the 44th over due to a slow over-rate by the visitors.

The wickets were distributed among the Waterford bowling attack, with F Francis returning the best figures of 2 for 39 from his 5 overs. B Joseph, A Joseph, and Arun Kumar claimed one wicket apiece.

Second Innings: Wickets Tumble Early in Vikings Chase

K Omanakuttan offered the only sustained resistance for the visitors, scoring a resilient 31 off 41 balls, including two boundaries and two sixes. However, he received minimal support as wickets continued to fall at regular intervals. Dipu Mathai (1) fell leg-before to Sharan Narke, while Anoop A (1) was trapped lbw by Babar Ali.

The lower order was swiftly wrapped up by Adhvaith Sarath Divakaran, who mirrored Qamar’s return by taking 3 for 19 in 3.1 overs, including the wickets of Omanakuttan, J Baby (0), and Arun Kumar (5). The Vikings were bowled out for 55 runs in 16.1 overs.

Hero of the Match

While both Muhammad Arbaz Amjad Kushar and Subeesh Velappan delivered excellent half-centuries, Ahmad Qamar earns the Hero of the Match distinction for breaking the game wide open at the very start of the second innings. His opening over yielded three wickets while conceding zero runs, effectively dismantling the Waterford top order immediately and defining the trajectory of the defense. He finished with figures of 3 for 10 from 4 overs, alongside a useful 24 runs with the bat.

While Sreehari Vinobaji played a vital anchoring role in the second innings with his half-century, Rajkumar Nagulsamy is named the Hero of the Match for his decisive spell with the ball. While several Harlequins bowlers delivered exceptional figures, Magesh Kumar is selected as the Hero of the Match. Nenagh CC 3rd XI advanced to the Division 4 T20 final after defending a modest total to defeat County Kerry CC 4th XI by four runs in a closely contested second semi-final at the Lisronagh Castle Grounds.

First Innings: Umer Half-Century Guides Nenagh to 132

Having won the toss and elected to bat, Nenagh CC 3rd XI managed 132 for 6 from their allotted 20 overs. Nenagh experienced an unstable start, losing opener Amit Gupta (5) to Ananya Mishra in the second over, followed by Jibin Scaria (12) via a run-out during the powerplay.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Raja Umer anchored the innings, top-scoring with a composed 55 off 41 balls, including five boundaries and a six. Umer formed minor partnerships with Subin Sudarsanan (12) and Ebin Baby (8) to steady the score, bringing up his half-century in 37 balls before retiring not out in the 18th over with the score at 115. A late contribution from Kanagaratenam Prasanna (10) pushed Nenagh to their final total.

For County Kerry, Noor Shah was the most effective bowler, taking 2 for 23 from his 4 overs, while Luqman Kabir (1/23) and Ananya Mishra (1/22) picked up one wicket each.

Second Innings: Pyda and Prasanna Stifle Kerry Chase

Chasing 133 for a place in the final, County Kerry CC 4th XI fell just short, finishing their 20 overs on 128 for 7. Kanagaratenam Prasanna put Kerry under early pressure, clean-bowling opener Muhamamd Kamran (8) in the first over and later having A Hassan (1) caught to finish with highly economical figures of 2 for 17. Ebin Baby (1/21) bowled Shreyas Padmanabha Sharma Beedubail (20) to leave Kerry struggling at 35 for 3 at the end of the powerplay.

Luqman kabir kept the chase alive for Kerry, hitting an aggressive 55 off 40 balls, which featured six boundaries and two sixes. He found support from captain Taimour Ahmad Chaudhary (14), and together they added 51 runs for the fifth wicket to take the score to 113.

However, Praveen Pyda turned the momentum back in Nenagh’s favor during the death overs. Pyda dismissed Chaudhary, followed by the crucial wicket of Kabir, and later had Karthik S (3) caught to finish with figures of 3 for 18 from 3 overs. Amit Gupta also contributed with 1 for 14. Despite Noor Shah remaining unbeaten on 5, Kerry were unable to score the required runs in the final over, leaving Nenagh victorious by a narrow margin.

Hero of the Match

Praveen Pyda (Nenagh CC 3rd XI)

Praveen Pyda earned the distinction for his decisive spell late in the second innings. With County Kerry well-positioned to chase down the target, Pyda broke the primary partnership and claimed three vital lower-order wickets, successfully restricting the opposition to secure the four-run victory.

First Innings: Gupta Half-Century Sets Demanding Target

Having won the toss and elected to bat, Nenagh CC 3rd XI posted a high-scoring total of 173 for 4 from an innings shortened to 17 overs. The foundation was laid by a rapid 83-run opening partnership between Amit Gupta and Jibin Scaria. Gupta took charge of the scoring, striking a rapid 65 off just 39 balls, an innings punctuated by two boundaries and six sixes. He reached his half-century in 32 deliveries before eventually falling to Henry Michael.

His opening partner, Jibin Scaria, retired not out on 14 off 22 balls in the ninth over to allow for late-innings acceleration. Raja Umer kept up the momentum with an unbeaten 29 off 17 balls, while Subin Sudarsanan chipped in with a brisk 18 off 9 deliveries. Praveen Pyda closed out the innings with 10* off 5 balls.

Second Innings: Kuriakose Five-Wicket Haul Sparks Collapse

Chasing a target of 174 from 17 overs, United Cricket Clonmel 2nd XI started aggressively but were ultimately bowled out for 122 in 14.4 overs. Opening batsman Henry Michael (6) fell in the first over to Kanagaratenam Prasanna (1/21), but Robin Raj counter-attacked heavily. Raj smashed a quick-fire 36 off 13 balls, hitting two boundaries and four sixes, guiding Clonmel to a rapid 64 for 1 inside the 5-over powerplay.

The turning point of the chase came when Robin Raj was run out in the sixth over, which triggered a severe batting collapse. Sharan Narke offered some resistance with 17 runs, and captain Linto Jose Parokaran made 10, but the rest of the batting order crumpled under pressure from BM Kuriakose.

Kuriakose dismantled the middle and lower order, taking a superb 5 wickets for 21 runs across 3.4 overs. He claimed the wickets of Alfaran Bedadhaluri (5), Parokaran, Adhvaith Sarath Divakaran (0), Libin Raj (5), and Sajan Mulaveliparambil (5) to break Clonmel’s resistance. SIBIN JACOB (1/14) and Amit Gupta (1/11) also picked up a wicket each as Clonmel lost their final nine wickets for just 58 runs, concluding the match with a run-out in the 15th over.

BM Kuriakose (Nenagh CC 3rd XI)

While Amit Gupta set up the match with his explosive half-century, BM Kuriakose earned the definitive distinction for halting a highly dangerous Clonmel chase.
