A memorable day in beautiful Lismore Cricket Club on Saturday 16th May 2026, for the first ever Munster Cricket Union Women’s squad match.

Players from Cork County CC, Limerick CC and Lismore CC joined together to play for the MCU. This was a friendly match with GS Cricket Women’s team, with players from Carlow and Kilkenny cricket clubs.

The match was played in great spirits, with several MCU players joining the GS Cricket team. Great fun, great cricket and new friendships, the weather was on our side, and the match ended in a very exciting tie!

This was an exciting opportunity for women playing cricket in clubs across Munster to come together and represent their province as one team.

It is an important milestone in the continued growth and development of female cricket in Munster, made possible through the dedication of volunteers across the province who have worked with Munster Cricket Union to advance the sport for women and girls.

It also creates a clear pathway for young girls playing in our clubs to aspire to provincial representation and higher levels of the game.

Aideen Sullivan, Chair of MCU Women’s and Girls Committee

Saturday 16th saw a fantastic day for Munster Cricket as our Women played a mixed team from south Leinster which ended in a thrilling tie. Thanks for everyone involved in the day from Lismore CC, especially the sterling work by Michael Condon in preparing an excellent track, to the players who travelled and competed so well, to parents who were there to support their daughters, and umpire/coach Glenn Brokenshire- everyone contributed to in making it a great success.

Thanks also to Gurpreet Singh of GS Cricket for sending some quality players to help make the match possible.

We are currently working behind the scenes to get more fixtures for the MCU Women, and will keep you posted!
