U15 Interpro Series 2023
This was a fantastic experience for our young squad travelling to Belfast. The tournament has progressed significantly in the last two years, with planning and event management clearly in evidence. From accommodation at Campbell College to the grounds themselves, it was a very polished and professional production.
Unfortunately the weather played a significant role in affecting the number of matches that could ultimately be completed, but the adverse conditions didn’t dampen the spirits of the boys.
Whilst we did not enjoy a great deal of success on the pitch, the MCU U15s nevertheless showed real progression in their match play and tactics, as well as bonding as a unit.
This was the first opportunity for many of the boys to represent their province, and they conducted themselves extremely well and were a credit to the MCU.
Ayan Ullah of Limerick CC was the standout performer with the bat, with scores of 44* and 33* in his two matches. In terms of bowling stocks, there were some notable performances, and it was the accurate spin of Mark Donnelly (Cork County CC) that caught the eye. Overall, the positive steps taken during this tournament were obvious to the coaching staff. There is clear potential, boosted by the Winter training programme under the watchful eye of Ted Williamson. (Cork Harlequins CC)
Some of the lads will remain with the U15 squad next year, whilst others will progress to the ranks of the U17s. The challenges remain, but so does hope and hard work. We face into the next Interpro series with a sense of positivity, and purpose.
Thank you to all the parents who have supported their boys so well. Thanks also to the MCU, coaches, Cricket Ireland, the scorers, officials, and volunteers who helped make it all happen.
