The Munster Cricket Executive Board met on Monday 5 October 2020 using Google Hangouts . The key matters discussed were the following.

Annual General Meeting

It was agreed that the first Annual General Meeting of Munster Cricket Union Company Limited by Guarantee will take place on Sunday 10 January 2021. Depending on the position in regard to Covid 19 restrictions , a decision will be made closer to the time as to whether the meeting will take place online or in person.

Strategic Plan 2021-23

One of the key actions at the AGM referred to above will be the approval of the nest Munster Cricket Strategic Plan. To be consistent with Cricket Ireland and the other Provincial Unions, this will cover the period 2021 to 2023. Clubs and individuals involved in running cricket in Munster will be contacted in the near future to provide input into the planning process.

2020 Season Outcome

The Board expressed it’s satisfaction that the cricket season did take place in 2020 albeit  in a truncated form and congratulated all the clubs who took part and the winners of the T20 Blast and League competitions at each level.  It is planned to put arrangements in place to present the trophies to the winning clubs and to hold a virtual end of season function . Due to the current Level 3 Covid restrictions, this will probably be held on a November date.

The Board agreed that the Operations Committee and the Strategic Plan working group would conduct a detailed review of the 2020 season and would bring forward proposals for structures for 2021 and beyond. The Board is encouraged by the level of enquiries across the Province in regard to establishing new clubs and it is hoped that some of these will come through in 2021.

Covid 19 Review

Particular thanks were extended to the Union’s Covid 19 Officer , Joe Moynihan , and to each of the club Covid officers for the huge amount of work they had done to ensure that the Covid 19 training and playing protocols were adhered to.

Purchase of Scarifier

Munster Cricket has entered into an arrangement with Cricket Leinster to purchase from them a top level scarifier . This will be made available to all clubs who currently have grass wickets or who are actively working on establishing grass wickets to assist them with the ground work. Please contact Joe Moynihan if you have an interest in using the machine.

Development and Operations Staff

The Board approved the plans submitted by the General Manager , Joe Moynihan, to proceed with the recruitment of two part time Club/School Development Officers and a part time Operations resource. It is hoped to have these positions filled in time to have the staff appointed start work in early 2021 but the precise timing of this will depend on the way the Covid restrictions change as this impacts on their ability to access clubs and schools.”
