At its most recent Executive Board Meeting held on 25 June, Munster Cricket welcomed its new Cricket Manager, Joe Moynihan, to his first meeting.
Joe outlined his background and work history to date and gave the meeting some initial thoughts on his impression of where cricket in Munster is and his priorities for action.
Joe indicated that he would be spending the coming months engaging with the clubs in Munster and those involved in the various activities in Munster Cricket to build up a picture of where we stand and the key areas that need to be addressed. This would lead into a detailed planning process in advance of the 2020 season.
Updates were provided by the Cricket Operations committee and the Participation & Pathways committee. Much of the discussion centred on the arrangements for the participation of the Munster U15 and U17 teams in the Interprovincial tournaments and the Leinster League competitions in which they participate. It was noted that there will be significant interclub activity at youth level, but travel remains an obstacle in trying to organise Province wide club competitions.
The positive performances of the Munster Reds in the first T20 festival in Pembroke CC were noted. Coach Ted Williamson noted that more needed to be done to optimise the integration of the young players from other Provinces that the Irish selectors wish us to involve with our own local players and we need to aim to bring through more of our own young players into the squad.
As part of this, in addition to their games with MCC and in the Alan Murray Cup, it is hoped that the Munster Heat will also play a series of matches in early September against the NCU Emerging Knights side.
Work continues in relation to the process of incorporating Munster Cricket into a Company Limited by Guarantee and on developing policy documents to improve our governance arrangements.
