SATURDAY 22nd AUGUST: LISMORE
Under brilliant blue skies at the Castlelands ground in Lismore, Cork County CC Women lifted the Celtic Spirit MCU Women’s Supercup following a five-wicket victory over County Galway CC.
Cork County Captain Ciara Spalding won the toss, and elected to bowl. The County bowling unit performed well and were able to restrict Galway to an attainable total of 109/6, with the most productive partnership for the visitors being a solid 76-run second-wicket stand between S. Rathnayaka (43) and Sasindi Guruge (23)
Despite a nervous start to the run chase that saw Cork County reduced to 26/4, Sara Kamel was able to steady the innings with a powerful 80 from 55 balls (15×4 1×6). Kamel worked with the middle order to steer her side home to achieve the total with 14 balls and 5 wickets to spare.
Munster Cricket Union President Jack Filen was on hand to present the trophy and medals to the Cork County squad, hailing the final as a testament to the rising quality of women’s cricket across the province.
