With two weeks of cricket remaining in the 2024 season, the six adult league competitions are rapidly coming to a close. The identity of the league champions is already known in some cases but for the remainder, it will be a tense and exciting finish. The league tables and permutations for all Divisions are outlined below.
Premier Division
While three teams can still mathematically win the league, Cork Harlequins would require an unlikely combination of results to pip County Galway and Cork County to the title at this point. The Lydican based side host County Kerry this weekend before finishing their season at the Mardyke in what is likely to be a title-decider. Cork County’s bonus point tally sees them sitting just ahead of the Connacht team currently and they will head to Adare on Sunday hoping to remain in that position. Either way, Saturday 14th September’s fixture between the top two looks set to decide the fate of the Premier Division title for 2024.
Division 1
After two full bonus point wins for the title contenders last weekend, it all comes down to the last round of Division 1 fixtures this coming Saturday. Limerick 2 have now done all they can, losing just once en route to 83.3% (229 points) and finishing their season with a 10 wicket victory over Cork Harlequins 2 on Saturday. Cork County 2 travel to Farmers Cross on the last day of the season in top spot on 83.7% but they know that 21 points are still required to retain their Division 1 title. In the unlikely event that adverse weather were to intervene, the Cork side would prevail by the barest of margins but the forecast is presently set fair and should make for an exciting end to the Division 1 season.
Division 2A
Cork County 3 are the inaugural winners of the newly formed Division 2A, having beaten UC Clonmel in Tipperary on Sunday last. They have lost just one game of the eleven played thus far and will be hoping to finish their season in style on Sunday against Limerick 3 before being presented with the league trophy. UC Clonmel’s recent loss has consigned them to bottom spot in the league standings and relegation to Division 2B for the 2025 season in what has been a tough campaign for them. Nenagh 2’s dramatic win over Limerick Blasters 2 last weekend consolidated their position in second place but Blasters can still finish in the runners-up position if results go their way.
Division 2B
This is the tightest of all league competitions in Munster this year with just two wins separating top spot and bottom spot. Clare 2 and Cork Harlequins 3 are locked in a battle for the title and promotion with both teams effectively level on percentages and with two games remaining. The title contenders face off this Sunday at Farmers Cross with the victorious side highly likely to take the league honours after the final round of fixtures on 15th September.
