A well-attended Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) in Cork on Sunday, 3rd March 2019, saw the Munster Cricket Union adopt revised Terms of Reference for its Executive Board and a revamped committee structure which will see the following committees operating to lead the development of the different aspects of cricket in Munster.
New Committee Structure
The revised committee structure adopted at the EGM sees the creation of new and renaming of existing committees. The new committeea are as follows:
- Cricket Operations Committee
- Participation and Pathways Committee
- Commercial Committee
- Nominations Committee
- Discipline Committee
The Board and committees are seeking to increase the diversity of their membership and the role of the Nominations committee will be to seek members to serve on the Board and committees from a wider range of clubs across Munster, from women and representatives of the immigrant communities who are involved in cricket in Munster and, also, independent members who can bring expertise and skills across a range of disciplines such as professional, business and sports management.
Amendments to the Constitution
The meeting also ratified the necessary changes to the Munster Cricket Union Constitution to reflect the revised Board and Committee structures and terms of reference.
The updated Constitution and the Board and Committee terms of reference documents can be found at the following links.
This represents the first step in a process that will see the Munster Cricket Union transforming itself from an unincorporated voluntary body into a Company Limited by Guarantee – something the other Unions in Ireland have already done. This move will better enable us to run the game in Munster in the future, ensure compliance with best Governance practice and support the attraction of increased funding. Planning for this change has already commenced and further information will be made available as this project progresses over the coming months.
Cricket Ireland Representation
The meeting was attended by Elaine Nolan, Joy O’Neill, Eimear Hubble and Brett Reid of the Cricket Ireland Participation Department and heard interesting presentations from them in relation to Club Development Plans, Child Safeguarding and Coach Education.
In regard to the latter, the first running in Ireland of the new ‘Coaching Kids from 5 to 11’ course will take place in Bandon Grammar School on Saturday , April 6th.
