Limerick Cricket Club held it’s first Girls & Women’s Hardball blitz at Adare Manor Playing Fields to dry & sunny conditions Saturday 8th July.
Neighbouring cricket clubs with female players were also invited to attend. Members from Galway & Cork County arrived to join in the fun which also saw a number of U11 boys play off 2 matches in teams grouped from the various attendees. Limerick Cricket Club coaches and experienced youth players helped umpire, score and support the matches.
The Girls team won the toss, opted to bat first and bravely won the blitz by presenting a brilliant mix of powerful bowling, batting and quick fielding. For a couple of girls it was their very first time padding up to meet a hardball. The women had immense fun and all enjoyed pooling their cricket knowledge & skills. The legs felt sore which was a sign of a decent day’s work on the field. At the same time, the food brought for sharing by Limerick club members offered a welcome break and an opportunity to enjoy good company .
Resounding agreement at the end of the blitz can be summed up by the last minute request from a young Galway cricketer, ” Can we play another match now please !?” Limerick CC, Galway CC, Cork County CC & other clubs across Munster want our women & girls to get into cricket- contact your club, show up to training, meet new women & girls in the sport, have fun, and play cricket!
