We are delighted to announce that Munster’s newest cricket club will debut in the Munster Cricket Union this season, playing in both league and cup competitions.

The Waterford Vikings Cricket Club was established on April 5th, 2022, marking the beginning of a journey that would quickly make an impact in the sporting community. Starting with just 35 members, the club has experienced tremendous growth and has blossomed into a thriving organization. Today, it boasts a membership of over 700 individuals, reflecting its widespread appeal and the dedication of its members.

In a significant step forward, the club has evolved beyond just cricket. It is now known as the Waterford Vikings Sports and Arts Club, expanding its scope to include a variety of sports and activities. Alongside cricket, the club now offers badminton, football, tug of war, and the Women’s Fusion Dance Fitness Club, making it a hub for diverse athletic and artistic pursuits.

The club has gained recognition as one of Ireland’s major emerging clubs, and its influence continues to grow. Waterford Vikings has made a name for itself as one of the top clubs in the country, attracting attention for its commitment to fostering sports, culture, and community engagement.

A key milestone in the club’s remarkable journey is its registration with Munster Cricket, marking a significant achievement in the development of its cricket division. This accomplishment is a true testament to the spirit and hard work of the club’s members, who have shown unwavering dedication to improving and elevating the club to new heights.

In 2023, the club reached another milestone with the support of the Waterford County Council, securing a grant for a 9-acre ground. The club invested significant resources to develop this land, including the creation of a top-notch cricket pitch, which has become a cornerstone of their activities. This investment has solidified the club’s presence and will serve as a foundation for its continued growth.

Waterford Vikings is also known for its cultural initiatives. The club has been instrumental in organizing various cultural events, further strengthening its connection with the local community. One of the most notable events is the South East Carnival, which has become Ireland’s largest carnival and is proudly presented by the Waterford Vikings Sports and Arts Club. Through these events, the club showcases its commitment to both sports and the celebration of local culture, ensuring that its impact reaches far beyond the playing field.

As the club continues to grow, Waterford Vikings stands as a beacon of community spirit, sporting excellence, and cultural vibrancy in Ireland.

Ed note: We wish Waterford Vikings all the very best in their inaugural season!
