The Munster Cricket Executive Board met in Cork on Monday September 9th. The meeting commenced by noting the great sadness of all in Munster Cricket at the recent death of Mustafa Sidiqi and extended our condolences to his family and friends.

Cricket Operations

On behalf of the Cricket Operations Committee, Joe O’Mahony provided an overview of the season to date. As several the competitions remained to be completed over the next couple of weekends, it was agreed to defer a full review of the season to the next meeting in October.

Prior to that, the committee together with Joe Moynihan will review in detail the way this season went, any necessary changes to the competition regulations and competition structures for 2020.

Selection Criteria 2020

Joe Moynihan presented to the meeting a draft paper dealing with selection structures for all Munster teams from the Munster Reds down to the U15s and also some draft selection guidelines for the Reds and Heat.

The meeting agreed that the structures and guidelines in the papers were appropriate and it was agreed that any feedback regarding the detail in the papers should be fed back to Joe so that finalised documents would be available for approval at the October Board meeting.

Indoor Training Facility in Cork

Joe Moynihan also informed the meeting that he had located a space in a warehouse facility in Cork which would be available for indoor training at weekends. This would provide a viable training venue for a couple of years while a more long-term solution to our training needs is being worked out.

Expenditure of approx. €8,000 was agreed to cover the purchase of mats, netting and a bowling machine. A winter training programme for Reds, Heat and U15s/U17s will be prepared over the coming weeks and will be held at this venue. As in 2018/19 winter training for U11s and U13s will take place on Sunday mornings in Little Island.

Incorporation

David Griffin updated the meeting on the ongoing work to incorporate the Union as a company limited by guarantee. It is hoped that a detailed timetable will be available to cover all the steps involved by the October meeting of the Board.

InterAct Software & Player Registration

Joe Moynihan updated the meeting regarding discussions with Cricket Ireland concerning the InterAct software. Following discussion, it was agreed that we would adopt this software for registration of players, fixtures and results etc from 2020 on.

The Board also approved the introduction of a player registration fee of €15 for adult players and €5 for youth players. The money raised will contribute to the Union’s efforts to put additional development resources in place for the benefit of all clubs.

2020 Budget

Initial work has commenced on the Munster Cricket Budget for 2020 and this will be progressed over the coming weeks as matters such as the amount of funding available from Cricket Ireland for participation and high-performance activity becomes certain.

Annual Awards Event

It was agreed that the annual Munster Cricket awards function would take place on Sunday, 20th October, at Cork County CC. This will be combined with a Club information Day aimed at bringing all clubs up to speed with planned developments for 2020 and to get feedback from the clubs on these changes.
