The Executive Board of the Munster Cricket Union met on Tuesday, 15th October 2019, and this meeting was followed by an Extraordinary General Meeting on Sunday, 20th October 2019, after the Club Information Day held in Cork County Cricket Club.

Incorporation

The key matter of business at these two meetings related to the project to incorporate the Union as a Company Limited by Guarantee to be known as the Munster Cricket Union Company Limited by Guarantee.

The Board Meeting approved the draft Constitution for the new company and formally approved the notice to call the EGM. It also authorised the officers of the Union to proceed to apply for the incorporation of the new company. At the EGM, following a detailed presentation by the Chairperson, David Griffin, the 7 clubs present unanimously approved resolutions amending the current Constitution to give the Union power to transfer its assets and liabilities to the new Company, to permit the Executive Board to proceed to make the necessary arrangements to do this and to wind up the existing Union after the transfer of assets and liabilities is completed.

The detailed planning for this will now continue with the intention of the new company becoming active from 1st January 2020. Further updates will be given to the clubs at the Annual General Meeting on 8 December 2019.

Manager Report

Our Cricket Manager , Joe Moynihan, updated the Executive meeting on progress with the setting up of an indoor practice facility in a warehouse in Ballycurreen which will be used to host our winter training programmes for the Munster Heat, Munster U17s and U15s and will also be available for hire by the Union’s clubs.

He also outlined draft plans for these winter programmes and indicated that clubs had been contacted to nominate coaches who would be willing to run them and work with these squads in next season. He also continues to work on plans to set up selection committees for each squad.

Cricket Operations

Joe O’Mahony provided a detailed report on the 2019 season. This indicated that over 92% of the planned schedule had been completed with relatively little disruption from weather, over 400 players had participated across all competitions.

Initial indications are that there will be a further increase in 2020 in both numbers of clubs participating and teams fielded. He noted that we are near to or at capacity in terms of ground space and further expansion will be dependant of additional grounds coming on stream.

It was noted that clubs would be informed at the Club Day on 20 October regarding essential requirements for the 2020 season in relation to public liability insurance, child safe-guarding and ground inspections.

Participation & Pathways

It was agreed that the structure and terms of reference of this committee require further work to ensure that it operates effectively and thus Joe Moynihan will be convening a meeting of those involved in club youth cricket in the near future to get this process up and running.

Upcoming Events

It was noted that Cricket Ireland will be running a Club Connects Day for Munster clubs at the Charleville Park Hotel on Sunday 24 November which will be attended by key members of the Cricket Ireland management team.

Further information on this will be found on the Cricket Ireland and Munster websites and clubs should register to confirm their attendance. The Munster Cricket AGM will take place on Sunday 8 December at a venue to be confirmed later.
