The Munster Cricket Executive Board met on Tuesday, 21st May 2019, for its fourth meeting in the 2019 year.

The Chairperson, David Griffin, confirmed that contracts with the newly appointed Cricket Manager, Joe Moynihan, had been signed and he will take up his position in early June.

The Cricket Operations committee reported on a satisfactory start to the season with the generally good weather assisting the completion of the early season programme. The committee will issue revised starring lists tom clubs shortly to reflect the assessment of the proper ranking of a significant number of new players across all levels of competition.

The Participation and Pathways committee reported on developments at youth cricket level. It was noted that the winter training programmes had been successfully completed but that better facilities are required to provide meaningful practice to the older age-groups. Sourcing better facilities will be a key objective for the Union in both the short and medium term.

The committee is pleased to confirm that Munster, rather than a Southern XI, will compete in the U15 and U17 Interprovincials in 2019. This will continue to see some Leinster players in the squad to ensure the teams are competitive and includes players of the necessary standard.

The teams will be managed by Munster and the lead coaches will be Ted Williamson for the U17s and Ru Jones for the U15s. Coaching and selection teams are currently being put in place for all Munster under-age squads. Work is ongoing on organising club level coemptions at the different age-groups and activity levels are expected to be significantly increased on recent years.

Work continues on the process of preparing the Union for incorporation as a Company Limited by Guarantee and further information will be made available to Clubs in due course. The Executive Board is also dealing with other Governance matters such as a Code of Conduct for Board and Committee members, a Confidentiality Policy and a Conflict of Interests Policy.

Munster Cricket is keen to put good structures in place to integrate cricketers who are living in the Direct Provision system and, to help facilitate this, consultations are ongoing involving a number of bodies including UCC, Cricket Ireland, Cork City Council and Cork Sports Partnership.”
