The Munster Cricket Executive Board met online on Monday the 1st March. The meeting heard updates from each of its committees regarding ongoing work.

The Operations and Participation & Pathways committees updated the meeting on planning for the season which now looks likely to commence in early June subject to the lifting of Covid restrictions to permit matches to take place.

The new Clubs committee held it’s first meeting last week and it’s Chairperson, Len Browne has joined the Board. It is commencing to map out a plan to help strengthen and grow the clubs across Munster in the coming years.

The Commercial committee also updated the Board on plans to grow our income base and it was noted that the agreed player registration system will go live later this month. Further information will be sent to clubs regarding the operation of this system in the coming weeks.

The main matter for discussion was a progress report from the Strategic Plan working group on the preparation of the Strategic Plan for the 2021-23 period. This remains on track for publication in April and the intention is to approve it at the next Board meeting on 12 April.

As part of this discussion, there was a detailed review of the results from the Players & Supporters survey which had been very successful with a high level of responses. A detailed report on the findings of the survey will be published on the Munster Cricket website in the coming days.

Following the recent announcements regarding the senior interprovincial and emerging team competitions in which the Munster Reds and Munster Heat will participate, the Board considered the first draft of a plan to improve the Munster Player Pathway over the next three years. Following a constructive discussion, further work will be undertaken on this to finalise it by the end of this month.

Finally, the Board congratulated Michael Hickey on winning the Volunteer of the Year award and Limerick Cricket Club on winning the Club of the Year award at the Cricket Ireland Annual Awards function on 26 February.
