Training is well underway for the upcoming Cricket Ireland Youth Interpro series at both Under 15 and Under 17 levels.
With an experienced coaching team led by Munster Reds Coach Jeremy Bray, the MCU teams are striving to improve standards across the board.
When asked about the training programme, Jeremy said “It’s about focussing on all three disciplines- batting, bowling, and fielding. One of our key drivers at the moment is fielding, and to raise the bar compared to previous seasons. It’s all well and good to have a proficient batting and bowling unit, but sharp fielding can save 20-30 runs to better support the bowlers, and therefore the team effort.”
At the session last night at Farmers Cross, this emphasis on fielding was evident, with sharp catching drills run by Jeremy, Mark, and Sunil.
“If we’re going to compete at Youth Interpro level, we need to be better on the ball. More incisive, quicker, and confident. Good fielding helps raise morale, enhance match situational awareness, and makes players accountable for their efforts. But the key here is encouragement- good fielding doesn’t appear overnight, so we are working with the players to reach their full potential ” he said. “I’m pleased with the progress and commitment from the boys, and we’re looking forward to the Youth IP schedule with anticipation and excitement!”
