It was with great pleasure that Hugh Harvey-Kelly (Munster Cricket Union Development Officer) accepted an invitation to do a ” come and try” taster event at the schools sports activity day.
This went so well that by popular demand Hugh was asked if he would come into the school and run a cricket session for boys and girls aged 12 to 13 in their PE session. Working in an area of a tennis court, the 11 girls and 11 boys were given a crash course in catching, bowling and batting, as well as the basic aims of the game and rules.
Hugh was delighted with the reception and the level of enthusiasm at the event. “After an hour of fun drills we moved to a small area of longish grass and got two games going. All the students getting a chance to test their new bowling and batting techniques. Both days were a great success with learning and fun for all involved. Teachers commented that playing the game at school is not so complicated as they first thought!”
