All of us involved in Munster Cricket were very saddened to hear of the recent death of Dermot Giltinan after a long illness. Dermot’s involvement in Cork County CC went back to the 1950s as a player and administrator but he is best remembered in the club for the work he did for many years in establishing and running youth cricket in the club.
In addition to his club role, he contributed greatly to bringing cricket into the school environment principally in his beloved Presentation College Cork but he also worked actively at different times with CBC Cork, Bandon Grammar and several local national schools. At the Munster level, together with his good friend, the late John Rolf, he coached and managed Munster under-age teams for many years in the interprovincial tournaments and was highly respected in the Irish cricket community for his work with these teams.
Many of the best players to come from Munster benefited from his coaching and support over the years in which he was involved. Our sympathy and condolences go to his brother Noel, sister Deirdre and all the members of his family.
