Munster Cricket will have a second schools trophy in 2019, as the Schools Senior Cup will be joined by the Schools Junior T20 Bash, ensuring that second-level students of all ages will be able to represent their respective schools on the cricket pitch this season.
The Munster Schools Junior T20 Bash will consist of three blitzes in three different venues in Cork and Limerick. Bandon Grammar School will host the first on April 4th, before heading to the other side of the county.
The second day takes place in a venue unfamiliar to Munster Cricket in recent years, but it’s fantastic to see cricket back at the University of Limerick, which will be the home venue of CBS Sexton Street, on April 10th.
The Bash wraps up with a third and final blitz on May 2nd at Midleton College.
Joining Sexton Street, Bandon Grammar and Midleton College will be Christian Brothers College, which ensures a Cork City side in the competition.
As for the Senior competition, last year’s edition was ruined by extremely poor weather in early Spring, but winners of the abridged edition, Bandon Grammar, will be looking to defend the maiden title they won last year, beating Sexton Street in the final.
Standing in their way will be 2017 finalists Presentation Brothers Cork and Cork Combined Schools, whose chances last year were ruined by rain, while Midleton College also look to mount a challenge and win their first title since the competition relaunched four years ago.
