The Munster Cricket Union (MCU) launched its first ever winter programme for women and girls recently, led by pathway manager Ted Williamson.
The programme is designed to provide opportunities for women and girls of all ages and abilities to participate in and enjoy cricket. It will include a variety of activities, such as indoor and outdoor training sessions, matches, and social events.
The programme is being delivered in partnership with a number of clubs and across Munster. It is supported by Sport Ireland and Cricket Ireland.
Williamson said: “We are delighted to launch our first ever winter programme for women and girls. This is a significant step forward for Munster Cricket and it demonstrates our commitment to developing the game for all.”
“The programme will provide women and girls of all ages and abilities with the opportunity to participate in and enjoy cricket. We hope that it will inspire more women and girls to take up the sport and to reach their full potential.”
The programme will run from October 2023 to March 2024. It is open to women and girls of all ages and abilities, who have a knowledge of cricket.
Why is this important?
The launch of the Munster Cricket Union’s first ever winter programme for women and girls is a significant step forward for the sport of cricket in Munster. It demonstrates the union’s commitment to developing the game for all and to providing opportunities for women and girls of all ages and abilities to participate in and enjoy cricket.
The programme is also important because it will help to address the gender imbalance in cricket. Cricket is a traditionally male-dominated sport, but the MCU is working hard to change that. The winter programme is one of a number of initiatives that the MCU is running to encourage more women and girls to play cricket.
The winter programme is also important because it will help to develop the next generation of female cricketers in Munster. The programme will provide women and girls with the opportunity to train and play with high-quality coaches and players. This will help them to develop their skills and knowledge of the game, and to reach their full potential.
What are the benefits of the programme?
The Munster Cricket Union’s winter programme for women and girls will offer a number of benefits to participants, including:
- The opportunity to participate in and enjoy cricket in a safe and supportive environment.
- The opportunity to learn from and train with high-quality coaches and players.
- The opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge of the game.
- The opportunity to meet new people and make friends.
- The opportunity to compete in matches against other teams.
- The opportunity to improve their fitness and well-being.
The MCU are committed to growing the game all across Munster and provide opportunity for all those who want to engage with cricket.
