Hugh Harvey-Kelly, Schools Engagement Officer Munster Cricket Union, recently conducted a cricket session for Primary school teachers in Limerick on Monday, October 21st. The session aimed to introduce teachers to the sport of cricket and encourage them to incorporate it into their school’s physical education programmes.

With the valued support of Limerick Sports Partnership, the participating schools received a cricket kit bag, providing them with the necessary equipment to start their own cricket programmes. The initiative is part of Munster Cricket’s broader outreach efforts to promote the sport and increase its visibility within the community.

Despite having little or no previous experience with cricket, the ten teachers who attended the session were enthusiastic and eager to learn. Hugh Harvey-Kelly provided a comprehensive introduction to the basics of cricket, covering batting, bowling, and fielding techniques.

This programme offers a fantastic opportunity for schools to introduce a new and exciting sport to their students- non contact, simple, and with lots of action! Cricket is a great way to promote physical activity, teamwork, and sportsmanship. By providing teachers with the necessary resources and training, Munster Cricket hopes to inspire a new generation of cricketers in Limerick.
