County Galway CC report Round 2:
Another amazing day on the field for County Galway Cricket Club at Midleton Cricket Club.
The first game against Limerick Cricket Club ended in a tie. The first innings saw Galway bowling with good discipline (3wickets haul included) and were well supported in the field restricting Limerick to 56/4. The 2nd innings saw good overall batting and very good running between the wickets. It was great to see quick singles being taken by the team. The Galway women ended up scoring 56/4 in a tight chase.
The second game saw Galway Women beat Cork County Women comprehensively. Very disciplined and tight bowling by Galway restricting Cork to a lesser than average score of 51. The Galway women chased the total in just 7 overs and won with no loss of wickets. Amazing 4s and 6 seen by the openers.
As they say, Matches are won by individuals but it takes a Team to win Tournaments. Overall a wonderful team performance with the bat, ball, fielding especially wicket keeping. The captaincy was spot on with Rohini marshalling her troops perfectly to victory. Everyone involved with women and girls cricket would like to wish Katie Kilbane of Co. Galway CC and her partner Adeel the very best of luck with their move to Australia. She will be missed by all.
Limerick CC report Round 2:
Our women’s side were in action in Midleton on Saturday afternoon. In two tightly-contested affairs, Limerick travelled home with a narrow defeat to Cork County and a tie against County Galway.
The Limerick top order of Katy Hewison and Holly Westmoreland provided a steady partnership in both games, with Westmoreland in particular playing to her strengths with some delicate boundaries through the infield. The two compiled a stunning seven 4’s in just under 6 overs to get Limerick to 52-2 off their 10 overs. Despite being defeated by 7 wickets, Limerick pushed County to the final over where only then would County chase down the total. Sana George continued her fine form with the ball, picking up two wickets in the second game against Galway to being her tally to three wickets for the year and keeping her at the top of the bowling records. She was complimented by Saadia Mahmood who took a wicket in each game, dismissing the opposition openers on both occasion. It was a dramatic finish with Galway needing 11 to win off the last over, Holly Westmoreland stepped up to keep her cool, conceding just ten runs and having the composure to take a run out, ensuring her team did not lose the game.
