Hugh is excited to join the Munster Cricket development team as their Schools & Clubs Engagement Officer. He brings over 20 years of coaching experience in sports to the role, with a passion for cricket and its exciting revival through new, fast-paced formats.
Hugh’s cricketing journey began at Mullingar Cricket Club and continued at school in Dublin. Now living in Co. Clare, his dedication to the sport extends beyond his own playing days. For over a decade, Hugh has been passionately involved in coaching at the school level, boys and girls, dedicating his full-time efforts to nurturing young talent.
His coaching credentials are impressive having worked with coaches and players, and holding Level 3 coaching badges in both cricket and hockey. He also coached university teams.
During his time in London, Hugh honed his skills by coaching at multiple large clubs, some with over 500 children participating in their programs. This extensive experience provided him with valuable insights into developing young players and fostering a love for the game.
Also whilst in London he managed a sports centre- overseeing the laying of 2 squares and 4 astros and a four lane net facility funded by the ECB.
Hugh is a member of the ECB Coaches Association and the Gary Kirsten Coaching Academy- demonstrating his dedication to professional development and staying at the forefront of coaching techniques. Notably, Hugh was also a successful All Stars and Dynamos activator. He also helped raise money for the Brian Johnston Memorial Trust and Lords Taveners.
In his new role with Munster Cricket, Hugh is eager to collaborate with players, schools, clubs, and parents across the region. His primary focus will be on further igniting interest in playing cricket and building a thriving cricketing community within Munster.
