The Munster Women & Girls Committee, as part of Munster Cricket Union, was formed earlier this year by a group of relatively new female cricketers who all shared the same desire and passion to play cricket and to open the game up to all girls and women across Munster cricket clubs.

Their hours of work in the background, finally took form on Sunday 19th May when Cork County Cricket Club hosted the historical first Munster female competitive cricket league – T10 Superleague. Three club teams presented to play in 2 matches – Limerick CC v Galway CC and Cork County CC v Galway CC.

What the women brought to their teams and to the event itself was a powerful display of keen and brave cricket especially considering some had only met a hardball in their club training 2 weeks prior. Multiple cappings took place amongst the players who proudly wore their club colours to compete for a win.
The matches resounded with constant calls of support for each other and the opposing batters. Positivity and fun were everywhere to enjoy. Galway CC women had the last laugh indeed as they took their tribe back home celebrating a double victory on the historical day.

The committee are very grateful for the support they have received from some hard working individuals in Munster Cricket Union. They champion the women’s game of cricket and spur it on using their own years of experience in this wonderful sport.

We all look forward with quite a bit of excitement and keenness to reconvene at our next T10 Superleague fixture on Saturday June 8th in UCC cricket ground. Will Galway do it again or will the league take a turn in another direction ? Come along to meet us and find out !

Editor’s note: It was an absolute honour and pleasure to be able to attend the launch of the Women and Girl’s Inaugural T10 League fixtures. The atmosphere was remarkable, it was like a festival. Everyone had an amazing time, and the skills on display were just fantastic. Stay tuned for a gallery of photographs of the event!
