Everyone involved in Munster Cricket is both saddened and shocked by the announcement of the sudden death of Mustafa Sidiqi after a very short illness. It seems all the more shocking in that he was playing cricket up to a couple of weeks ago and seemed to be his ever cheerful and enthusiastic self.
Since his family moved to Limerick and Ireland, Mustafa, and his brothers Murtaza and Mosawer, have been hugely involved in cricket in Limerick and Munster. They all played initially with the Limerick CC club and, during this season, with Limerick City CC.
Mustafa was a key component in Limerick CC’s run to the National Cup Final in 2018 and I recollect being at the final against Rush CC last September and seeing him bowl and field superbly in that game. He was also a prominent member of the Munster Heat squad in recent years and someone whom we hoped would progress through to play for the Munster Reds in years to come.
We would like to extend our heartfelt sympathy to all his family and friends on his very sad and sudden loss. We would like also to express our sympathy and sense of loss to all those involved in the cricket community in Limerick in particular.
As a mark of respect, a minute’s silence in his memory will be observed at all matches that take place in Munster this coming weekend.
