Munster Cricket Season 2022 – Week 4-25 All In. The REDS & Youth Join the Party

A total of 15 games for the week started early with the REDS commencing their IP50 campaign with a close professional win in Belfast over the Knights. This was then followed by a dramatic high scoring run chase victory over the Lightning at Pembroke in Dublin on Tuesday.

In the domestic program, we had 12 adult fixtures and 1 youth fixture.

Cricket Ireland IP50

Northern Knights (248/9) lost to Munster Reds (249/7) by 3 wickets

Leinster Lightning (304/6) lost to Munster Reds (305/5) by 5 wickets

The highlight of the opening two games was a magnificent 152 from the skipper, PJ Moor. 

Premier

Cork Harlequins 1 (131/6) beat Midleton 1 (130/10) by 4 wickets

Cork County 1 (152/5) beat Galway 1 (151/10) by 5 wickets

Harlequins maintained their winning run, with a 4 wicket win over Midleton at Farmers Cross. Ryan Joyce 69, Mubeen Ali 29, Seanan Jones 4/29 for Harlequins. Midleton, Pillai 2/21, Laubscher 2/25.

Cork County also kept in the wins at home with a 5 wicket win. Cormac

Hassett 73, Singh 4/35, Mostert 3/21 for County. Manoj Sharma 27 for Galway.

Division 1

Cork Harlequins 2 (252/8) beat Limerick Blasters 1 (225/10) by 27 runs

Kerry 2 (117/10) lost to Midleton 2 (121/7) by 3 wickets

Limerick 2 (211/9) beat UCC 2 (134/10) by 77 runs.

The first Saturday of May had UCC on the road up to Adare where the home side ran out winners by 77 runs. Limerick, Arslan Sayyam 50, Safraz Ramay 31, Schyff 5/34. UCC, Vikranth Masina 37, Kunal Chaturvedi 5/31.

At the Oyster Oval, visitors Midleton overcame Kerry by 3 wickets in a low scoring game dominated by the bowlers. Midleton, Prakhar Sarin 4/38, Danish Iqbal 3/30.

In the final game of the division, Harlequins hosted Blasters with a 27 run home win. Devon Joyce 82, Jack Buss 64, Max Egan 3/51 for Harlequins. Anunath Valsala 78, Rahul Poulose 45, Fivin Thomas 3/36 for Blasters.

Division 2


United Clonmel 1 (134/10) lost to Kerry 3 (137/9) by 1 wicket

Limerick 3 (169/10) lost to Limerick Blasters 2 (170/8) by 2 wickets

Midleton 3 (100/10) lost to Cork County 3 (220/10) by 120 runs

In one of the closest games of the weekend, Kerry travelled up for their first visit to the Lisronagh Castle Grounds and won by 1 wicket in a very evenly contested match. Kerry – Majid Yousaf 30, Prince Thomas 27, Brian Andrews 3/47, Majid Yousaf 3/36. For Clonmel, Sarath Divakaran 30, Justin Raj 3/28.

The visitors again came out on top in the local derby in Adare, Blasters closing out a victory by 2 wickets. Blasters – Regis Rex 52, Fivin Thomas 3/26. Limerick – Ashok Jayaraman 53, with young Zaki Khalid being named player of the match by Blasters.

Down in Townparks, County on the road kept up their title challenge with a big 120 run win over Midleton. Abdul Younus 44, Craig Taylor 26, Ishaan Seehra 3/33 for the visitors. Atif Jameel 4/40 for the home side.

Division 3


Clare 1 (156/8) beat United Clonmel 2 (155/10) by 2 wickets.

Waterford & District 1 (143/10) lost to Cork Harlequins 4 (175/10) by 33 runs.

Lismore 1 39/2 beat Limerick 4 (37/10) by 8 wickets.

This Division continues to throw up the biggest range of games and results with no clear leader on the board.

The game between Clare and Clonmel was in Lisronagh was a tough and competitive game which was won by the visitors by 2 wickets. For Clare G Singh 30, S Shah 28, R Kumar 6/16. Clonmel Parokaran, Joseph, Mulaveliparambil all made 20’s, Shinto Joseph 3/30, Promod Jacob 3/25.

Relatively nearby down at Carriganore, Waterford hosted Harlequins, with the visitors closing out a victory by 33 runs. Harlequins, Dave Peet 30, Joe O’Mahony 26, John Buss 4/16. For Waterford, Faraz Haider 4/27.

The final game for Division 3, took place at Castlelands, Lismore on

the early season grass. The home side won by 8 wickets. Lismore Adarsha Balagere 4/2, Gireesh NGD 3/6.

Division 4

Limerick Blasters 3 (122/6) beat Kerry 4 (120/10) by 4 wickets

The final match saw Kerry visit Blasters at Ballyneety. The home side ran out winners by 4 wickets in a lowish scoring game, pretty much dominated by the

bowling with wickets spread evenly across both attacks. Kerry, Libin Philip 57.

U13 T20 League

Cork County U13-B (90/2) beat Cork Harlequins U13 (89/2) by 8 wickets

On Wednesday evening, County U13-B played host to Harlequins in a well-contested match, dominated by batting. The home team ran out winners by 8 wickets. For County, Hashim Ahsan 21, Cillian Ross 21 (Ret). Harlequins, Namish Kumar 24 (Ret), Joshua Khan 25 (Ret).

Summary

Week 4 of 25, all scheduled games were completed with results. Stats so far for the domestic season with four weeks gone. Total runs 13,648, wickets 764 at an average of 17.86. The six tally stands at 67 as we head into the first T20s and Junior Cup on Saturday. Batters & Bowlers are pretty much honours even, so far.
